Do you own a Kindle, Nook, or ipad? If so, you can download books using your library card. You would need to go through the Elwood Library website and click on Live-brary.com. Once there you would click on Free Downloads. Any question you may contact the library at 499-3722 and we will walk you through it.

Need something to read try the winner of the michael L. Printz Award book for 2012. The book is Where Things Come Back, by John Whaley. you can also try the 2012 Honor books: Why We Broke up, by Daniel Handler; The Returning, by Christine Hinwood; Jasper Jones, by Craig Silvey; and The Scorpio Races, by Maggie Stiefvater. Summer Reading!!

We’re jumping for joy, and it’s not because we have ants in our pants! The EPL will start this year’s exciting Summer Reading Program on June 28! All patrons are invited to participate in this year’s “bug-tacular” program.
Anyone entering grades 6-12 is invited to join the Metamorphosis Program, where every book read earns you a prize. Read and complete weekly puzzles to earn chances to enter our raffle, where prizes include an iPod Shuffle and iTunes gift cards! Special events range from crafts to community service, and will end with a very special event for those who read at least two books.
Don’t miss out! Worm your way over to the Library starting Saturday June 28 to register—and Catch the Reading Bug @ Elwood Public Library!

Battle of the Books Information Session
Elwood’s ready to rumble with Suffolk’s libraries in the annual Battle of the Books competition! Any teen entering grades 6-9 can participate. Come learn the titles of the books to be used in the competition, and decided if you want to be a part of the team! Don’t think you can compete? We’ll still have plenty of things for supporters of the team to do, so come see what you can do!

Book Buddies
Read some stories, sing some songs, and help some of our young patrons catch the love of books and reading. This is a great way to accumulate some community service hours! The teen and children’s librarians will be on hand to help you pick some appropriate books, songs, and puppets to keep the kids entertained!

Summer Reading Decorating Part One
This year’s Summer Reading theme is “Catch the Reading Bug” and we need your help to turn the library into a bug filled wonderland. We’ll plan out our decorations during this session, and then fill the library with bugs in Part Two! This is a great chance to rack up some community service hours!

Fill the library with decorations for Summer Reading! You can come even if you couldn’t come for part one. Don’t have two hours during finals week? Feel free to come for as long as you can. This is a great chance to rack up some community service hours!

At the request of the Teen Advisory Board, I now have an AIM screenname-- eplteenlibrarian. I'll probaby be on tuesday and Wednesday nights, and some weekends...so if your on aim, say hi! It's also a good way to ask me questions when you can't get to the library.

New Fun December Programming!

Eileen's had her thinking cap on--here's what she has planned for December

Dec 4 @ 7 pm-Charm Bracelet --we do the hard work, you do the decorating. These holiday themed charm bracelets will be the perfect accessory for season.

Dec 9 @ 1:30 till I have to go home--Make your own buttons. We have a button maker, and a ton of magazines, and some stickers, and anything I can find on Google Images--you bring your creative juices and some cool ideas.

Dec 11 @ 6:45 --Book Buddies. Read to little kids, it's alot of fun, and Eileen lets you play with puppets.

Dec 15 @ 10:30-- Gingerbread House -build and decorate a gingerbread house, and then you can pretend you are a giant eating Hansel and Gretel's house.

Dec 26 @ 7--TAB meeting--you're always welcome to come to our Teen Advisory board meetings. We might break out the Guitar Hero II for the night, unless Eileen gets lucky and someone buys her Guitar Hero III for the ps2 this Christmas....

Dec 28 @ 2:30--Fruit Carving--take a break from the cookies candy and cake that seems to multiply over the holidays, and make some cool fruit animals and creatures with Rona Madri. Once again, we do the hard work--you have the fun!

SAT Prep

I'm working as hard as I can to get an instructor for an SAT review course.
While you're waiting for me to do that, check out http://apps.collegeboard.com/qotd/question.do to see a SAT Question of the Day straight from the College Review Board. After you answer the question, the site gives you an explanation of how to get the correct answer. Cool right? I got the right answer for Oct 17, and it was a math question--not my strong point! Too bad I already took the SAT's!

Here's what Eileen's been reading lately
Twilight, Eclipse and New Moon by Stephenie Meyer
What could be more fitting for the weeks leading up to Halloween than a Vampire Romance? Not much blood, no gore, just a good story with characters you'll want to hang out with on a Friday night. You'll be amazed at how quickly you want to get though these 3 hefty books. Watch for a 4th book in the series next year.
Epic by Conor Kostick
Can you imagine a world where World of Warcraft or Runescape are a for of government, and YOU have to battle against the rulers to save your home and your family? Put down that controller and pick up this book that tackles this interesting question.
The Plain Janes by Cecil Casellucci and Jum Rugg
A graphic novel that sure to appeal to anyone who's ever felt out of place. If you like this one, ask a librarian about Confessions of a Blabbermouth or Clubbing, both coming out soon!
Twisted by Laurie Halse Anderson
After finally getting noticed by someone other that school bullies and his ever-angry father, seventeen year old Tyler enjoys his touch new reputation and the attentions of a popular girl, but when life starts to go bad again, he has to learn how to stand up for himself. A great read, if you liked the Adventures of Fanboy and Goth Girl, you'll love this too!
